Business Plan and Budget

Tourism, Parks and Recreation contributes to the economic, social and environmental well-being of Albertans. Our programs and services have contributed to Alberta becoming a province of choice for four million people – with another million expected to call our province home in the next decade.

In 2014-15, we will continue to invest in programs, services and facilities that contribute to our high quality of life. Highlights include:

  • operating a provincial parks system that's more than four times the size of PEI and provides opportunities for people to connect with nature and be active while contributing to the local economy
  • moving towards the creation of five new wildland provincial parks and nine new provincial parks designated under the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan
  • restoring provincial parks in southern Alberta damaged by the 2013 flood
  • working with partners to implement the Tourism Framework and grow tourism from a $7.8 to $10.3 billion by 2020
  • advancing sport, recreation and active living opportunities in Alberta's communities and encourage Albertans to be more active more often
