Alberta's strength as Canada's winter sport training centre is acknowledge and applauded across Canada and around the world.
Alberta is capitalizing on this reputation by promoting opportunities for Canadian and international athletes to train in our province prior to 2010.
Athletes
It is estimated that well over 65% of the Canadian Winter Olympic team will call Alberta their home - of birth or as the home of each athlete's most significant training and development.
The Secretariat's focus will be on the athletes and throughout the year, we intend share their stories so Albertans will know who to cheer for as they compete for a spot on the Olympic podium.
Facilities
More than $100 million has been invested in the continued upgrades of Alberta's Olympic legacy facilities; including recent commitments to the Canmore Nordic Centre and the Centre of Sport Excellence project at Canada Olympic Park.
These investments bring our Olympic calibre facilities up to the highest international competition standards, making the hosting of international events and high-performance training opportunities possible.

International Competition
Many of the athletes who will be competing at Vancouver 2010 will also be in Alberta during the 2009/10 winter season. They will be here to compete in one of seven World Cups or other high profile pre-Olympic events that A lberta will be hosting.
These events create exciting opportunities for sport development in our province and allow Albertans a chance to attend international level competition closer to home.
Television coverage of the World Cups will be seen by 300 million viewers across the globe. This coverage provides an excellent opportunity to showcase all our province has to offer, creating significant economic benefit for years to come.
