Campground Hosts

Each spring and summer, Campground Hosts volunteer to meet and greet park visitors. For more information about host opportunities, contact Paul Avery at (403) 893-3777 or e-mail him at Paul.Avery@gov.ab.ca.

"Friends of the Park" (HACH)

The Heritage Association Of Cypress Hills (HACH) is an incorporated, nonprofit society dedicated to:

  • HACH Logoincreasing public appreciation, understanding and enjoyment of the Heritage Resources of Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park;
  • protecting park natural and cultural resources; and
  • promoting research into the Cypress Hills' natural and cultural history.

To achieve these goals the association aims to:

  • sponsor special events, activities and services to enhance the public's visits to the park;
  • develop partnerships that encourage environmental awareness

Programs Operated by HACH

Trail Care Program
Join other HACH volunteers for an afternoon on one of the many park trails, and help maintain their top condition.

Recycling Program
Our drop-off bins for recyclable bottles are located throughout the Elkwater townsite and park campgrounds. All funds collected are directed torwards HACH programming within the park.

Memorial Bench Program
Through this program members of the public can install and dedicate a memorial bench to a loved one. Contributors help select the bench location and decide what text should be on the memorial plaque.

Canada Day
HACH is a proud sponsor of Canada Day celebrations at the Elkwater Lake Visitor Centre: parade, games, music and cake.

HACH Newsletter
Members receive a semi-annual newsletter highlighting research projects within the park as well as other activities supported by HACH.

Guest Lecture Series
During the summer months, HACH sposors weekly audiovisual presentations and lectures by natural history specialists from the park and surrounding area of the Cypress Hills.

Northern Leopard Frog Research
Through an innovative partnership with the RANA Project (Researching Amphibian Numbers in Alberta), HACH employs a full-time summer researcher and educator to study and showcase the sensitive Northern Leopard Frog in the Cypress Hills.
