Bow Valley Ranch Visitor CentreThe education programs at Fish Creek Provincial Park focus on students' exploration and connection to a variety of natural ecosystems found in the park. The Bow Valley Ranch Visitor Centre is viewed as a gateway to these field study locations, with the ultimate goal being the ecological integrity of the park. Education is viewed as one of the elements necessary to ensure the long term ecological sustainability of this protected area. 

The Bow Valley Ranch Visitor Centre offers a wide range of teacher conducted, field based programs for students in kindergarten through grade 6. All programs are based on the curricula as set by Alberta Learning and on the mandates of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation, Parks Division. These mandates are: preservation, heritage appreciation, outdoor recreation and heritage tourism. 

PROGRAM WORKSHOPS
After a booking is made, teachers attend a program workshop held one day from 4:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During the workshop, centre staff will familiarize the teachers with the facility, trails, site, equipment provided and the program activities. Teachers will be provided with an extensive package of materials that details the on-site activities and provides suggestions for preparatory and post field study activities, student worksheets and assessment ideas. 

FACILITIES
The following facilities and services are included in a field study visit to the centre: 

  • space in the theatre or exhibit area to use as a base for the day's activities equipment for the students to use during the activities 
  • an orientation by centre staff to the students and adult volunteers that will introduce them to the value and importance of parks and protected areas, the park rules, safety messages and trails
