In 1996, the first trees were planted in the Memorial Forest. This forest, a product of a unique partnership between Fish Creek Provincial Park and McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, benefits both people and wildlife. For families who participate in the program, it provides a place of comfort and remembrance to visit.

memorial forestThe Memorial Forest provides a buffer strip between the Macleod Trail transportation corridor and the park's natural areas. In 2008, an additional planting area was established at the new Lafarge Meadows wetlands area in order to re-vegetate a former reclaimed gravel extraction site. Trees in this natural area will ensure an abundance of birds, wildlife and plants. The trees will also modify temperatures and assist with moisture retention. Only native species are planted including white spruce, saskatoon, dogwood, wolf willow and choke cherry.

Family members are given a bookmark to serve as a remembrance of the Memorial Forest dedication planting. Any other memorabilia articles will be removed. Please respect Fish Creek Provincial Park as a natural area.
