Visitor Safety

Park Wildlife: Whenever people visit ANY natural area, including those found within city limits, they should be aware of possible encounters with wildlife. See our Large Carnivores section under Wildlife for information on coyotes, bears, cougars, moose and bobcats.

For more information about bears view and download the Alberta Parks Bear Smart brochure at http://www.albertaparks.ca/pubsandmedia/BearSmart_Ebook.pdf

For more information about cougars view and download the brochure Living with Cougars at www.tpr.alberta.ca/parks/cougar

Unsupervised Children:  For the well-being of your children, please discuss basic personal safety rules prior to letting them visit the park on their own. Park staff will send unsupervised children home if staff feel there is a safety problem or if the children are too young to be on their own.

Radios and Stereo Players:  Avoid listening to personal stereos.  Your earphones are dangerous; they may mask sounds or warnings alerting you to dangerous situations. Without earphones, your music may be disturbing other visitors.

Wasp Stings:  Most wasp stings occur in autumn, as the insects are lethargic and less able to use flight as a means of avoiding danger. Do not reach into dead leaves with bare hands. Wasps use the protective covering to escape cooler temperatures. If you are allergic to wasps, ensure you have your anakit or epi-pen with you while in the park.

Trails:  When on the trails, please use trail etiquette for the safety of all visitors.

Waterway: Although Fish Creek is not classified or maintained as a navigable waterway, it should be noted that numerous dangerous obstacles and water hazards are present in the creek. Anyone utilizing this waterway should do so with extreme caution and be aware of dangerous hazards.
