The east end of the park, extending from Macleod Trail to the Bow River, is primarily grasslands with some riverine forest along the creek. The west end of the park, between Macleod Trail and 37 Street S.W., is a mixture of poplar and white spruce forests with some grasslands. Unless the season is very dry, temporary marshes suitable for a wetlands study can be found at Votier's Flats, close to the lower washrooms. Orienteering courses are located at the Bow Valley Ranch and the Shannon Terrace areas of the park. If you would like to use them, please contact 297-5293 or 297-7827 to ensure there are no other groups booked. The activity loses its effectiveness and becomes follow the leader if there are too many students on the course at one time. If you would like assistance selecting activities or park sites, please contact the environmental education staff at 297-7827 or 297-7927. ACTIVITY SELECTION When selecting activities for your field study in the park, keep in mind provincial parks are set aside for preservation, heritage appreciation, outdoor recreation and heritage tourism. The cumulative effect of groups doing intrusive activities can have a negative impact on ecosystems that are visited as much as those in Fish Creek Provincial Park. Select activities that show respect for the environment and a comittment to its care.
