The east end of the park, extending from Macleod Trail to the Bow River, is primarily grasslands with some riverine forest along the creek. The west end of the park, between Macleod Trail and 37 Street S.W., is a mixture of poplar and white spruce forests with some grasslands.

Unless the season is very dry, temporary marshes suitable for a wetlands study can be found at Votier's Flats, close to the lower washrooms.

Orienteering courses are located in the Bow Valley Ranch and the Shannon Terrace areas of the park. If you would like to a copy of the map for each course, please contact 297-5293 or 297-7827.

Fall is the best time of year to observe beaver activity. The stretch of Fish Creek between Glennfield (off Macleod Trail) and Bow Valley Ranch (off Bow Bottom Trail S.E.) usually has several active beaver colonies. Please call the main park office at 297-5293 for up-to-date information about beaver activity.

If you would like assistance selecting activities or appropriate park sites, please contact the environmental education staff at 297-7827 or 297-7927.
