Environmental Education and
Environmental Literacy.

Environmental Education is a state of knowing, Environmental Literacy is a state of being. Environmental literacy is defined as the capacity to preceive and interpret the relative health of environmental systems and to take appropriate action to maintain, restore, or improve the health of those systems. An Environmentally Literate person is the ultimate goal of environmental education. The appreciation of the relative health of the planet leads to changes in personal lifestyle behaviours that reflect a connection to the earth. Environmental literacy considers many forms of thought and leads to behavioural changes that are personal and life long.

The environmental literacy wheel illustrates the many abilities that are required in awakening this capacity.
