The area that would later become Switzer was known as the Fish Lakes Valley in the early 1900s.Nestled in the Canadian foothills, William A. Switzer Provincial Park is an uncrowded alternative to the Rocky Mountain parks, offering year-round outdoor recreation and nature appreciation. Highlights include:
  • vivid views of Canada's spectacular Rocky Mountains
  • an interpretive canoe route along one of the most intact river valleys in Alberta's foothills
  • numerous forest trails for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing
  • excellent wildlife watching opportunities from easily-accessible viewing platforms
  • self-guided interpretive trails and summer interpretive programs
